The VistA Electronic Health Record (EHR) from the US Department of Veterans Affairs has been implemented across all VA hospitals and clinics in the USA. Serving nine million veterans annually, this is the largest installation of a single integrated EHR system in the United States. VistA has one of the highest levels of clinician satisfaction, is functionally robust, and the most affordable, proven user-friendly EHR system in the world. This massive system costing several billions of dollars of taxpayer money is available free under the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), including all sources and documentation that have evolved and been refined over forty years. Implementing VistA enables any hospital or clinic to save millions of dollars as compared to the prohibitively expensive proprietary systems available in the market. VistA is presently operating in many US hospitals and clinics outside of the VA and has been successfully implemented in several other countries.
